Our program features six levels of American Red Cross Learn-To-Swim instruction to help swimmers of all ages and abilities develop their swimming and water safety skills. It is designed to provide students a positive learning experience. Instruction is provided in a logical progression, with a primary objective of teaching students to be safe in, and around the water. Each employee Swim Instructor assigned to your community is certified by the American Red Cross in Water Safety Instruction, Lifeguard Training with First-Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer. HOW TO REGISTER To ensure fast and immediate confirmation, registration is now provided online through ActiveNet, an authorized third-party provider of hosted online registration software. To register, you will be required login to ActiveNet or establish an account. A non-refundable PRIORITY CONVENIENCE REGISTRATION FEE of (6.50% + .50 cents, or 3.5% + $5.00, or 2.5% + $10.00 depending on the total amount) at registration checkout will apply. Note that various walk-in registration dates will equally be provided during the Summer months as well. Classes are offered at the Oak Knoll and Flintridge Clubhouse pools. PARENT & ME LESSONS - PARENT PARTICIPATION This group class is designed to introduce infants and small children to the water, in a safe and enjoyable manner. Skills taught include: Water adjustment, holding positions, safety techniques, floating, kicking on front/back, gliding, breath control and water entries & exits. Parents are required to enter the water with their child. AQUABABIES (INFANT ages 6 months to 18 months) AQUATOTS (TODDLER ages18 months to 3.5 years) SEMI-GROUP LESSONS - PRESCHOOL GUPPIES (PRESCHOOL Ages 2.5 - 5.0 years) This Level 1 semi-group class is designed for the non-swimmer who wishes to develop swimming readiness. Skills taught include: Balance, breath control, supported floating, alternating arm action, proper body positioning, underwater comfort, kicking on front/back and water safety skills. STARFISH (PRESCHOOL 2.5 to 5.0 years) This Level 2 semi-group class is designed for the for the child who is comfortable in the water and ready to swim. Skills taught include: Breath control, floating front/back, combined stroke on front, supported combined stroke on back, proper body positioning, supported gliding, retrieving submerged objects and water safety skills. GOLDFISH (PRESCHOOL ages 3.5 to 5.5 years) This Level 2 advanced semi-group class is designed for the for the child who is swimming on his or her own. Skills taught include: Roll-over breathing, floating front/back, combined stroke on front, combined stroke on back, deepwater orientation, intro to breaststroke, retrieving submerged objects and water safety skills. GROUP LESSONS - YOUTH OTTERS (YOUTH Ages 5.0+ years) This Level 1 youth group class is designed for the non-swimmer who wishes to develop swimming readiness. Skills taught include: Balance, breath control, supported floating, arm action, proper body positioning, underwater comfort, kicking on front/back and water safety skills. STINGRAYS (YOUTH 5.0+ years) This Level 2 youth group class is designed for the for the child who is comfortable in the water and ready to swim, or beginning to swim on their own. Skills taught include: Roll-over breathing, unsupported floating, combined stroke on front, unsupported combined stroke on back, deepwater orientation, retrieving submerged objects and water safety skills. DOLPHINS (YOUTH ages 5.0+ years) This Level 3 youth group class is designed for those who have completed Level 2 (or equivalent), and swimming on their own. Skills taught include: Side breathing, changing directions, refine front and back crawl, intro to butterfly, breaststroke, treading water, sitting and kneeling dives and water safety skills. SHARKS (YOUTH 6.0+ years) This Level 4 youth group class is designed for those who have completed Level 3 (or equivalent) and is ready to refine stroke development and stamina. Skills taught include: Alternate breathing, open turns, scissor kick, treading water, butterfly, refined breaststroke, standing dive and water safety skills. SWIM MECHANICS (YOUTH 6.0+ years) This Level 5 & 6 youth group class is designed for those who can demonstrate the four main strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly) and can swim 25 yards continuously. Skills taught include: Endurance, starts & finishes, sidestroke, competitive stroke refinement, front flip turns, advanced diving, survival and water safety skills. PRIVATE LESSONS - ALL AGES One-on-one instruction. Custom lesson plans developed for each student, based on his/her abilities and comfort in the water.
